For a few days last week, we visited some family membersnear Warwick.  This is the first time we have spent any time away from home since the beginning of lockdown last year and so it was quite an adventure.   We were invited to run with some friends around a lake called Draycote Water near Rugby and we had a lovely time running in this stunning location.  If you are living or staying near there, it’s certainly worth a visit and the perimeter path is all tarmac and just short of 5 miles all the way round.

I of course wore my Christian Runners t-shirt which is a great thing to wear when running with others, especially when they are new to me.   While running around the lake, one other runner mentioned my shirt and asked me a question about a bible story.  It doesn’t really matter what the question wasbecause the important thing is that the t-shirt was noticed, and a bible related conversation happened which otherwise would not have been.

Wearing the CRUK t-shirt is a great way to “stand up and be counted” and to make it visible you are a Christian.  Wearing it, frequently starts conversations showing that the shirts are noticed.   You don’t know what effect it has on the people you meet and pass and I expect the simple statement of wearing the shirt has an impact far beyond what we get to know about from conversations.  What questions does it start in people’s minds?  Does it make them curious?

Sharing the gospel to new people is daunting to some but don’t’ worry, we’re not all expected to be silver tonged evangelists.   Simply wearing a t-shirt is a powerful statement and we don’t have to worry about what happens next because God will take care of that.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”  (Matthew 5:14-16 NIV)
